The power of Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel is a very powerful program. Most people through normal use only see a small fraction of what the program is capable of. It is much more than just spreadsheets. It can be customized into a complete data input and reporting program that can manage entire departments of data with multiple users with restricted multi user level access. If you have any type of consistent tabled data that you need reported, Excel can process it and report it accurately and efficiently.

The programs I write are not designed to replace great accounting software like Quicken, or Peachtree. Hoewever these applications are sometimes not the answer. The needs of a small business are complex and very specific at times and these programs may not be the solution they need.

What I try to create is a departmental, or operational solution for processing data, everything from sales, inventory, estimating data and customer accounts, to invoicing and reporting. An application specifically written for how that department works and reports tailored for those that use them.

Writing an Excel application is a process of trial and error. Because many times we are bulding the program from the ground up, it does take a great deal of time to develop.

If you are interested in a demonstration, or just a consultation to see if this can be a viable solution, initial meetings are free.

Recent Project for Allegiance health

This program written specifically for Jacksons Allegiance Health Construction Engineering Department and was developed initially over the course of 4 months in 2008 and went into full use in October. The workbook has 5 users with 2 tiered password protected access. It is designed to manage the purchase order and invoice data for their outstanding projects and their complex sequenced and static purchase order system and report it in real time. They needed a custom solution to be in the know of where they were in regards to the budget set initially for a project and react if there is a problem. They needed access to the core data to be able to make changes even after an entry was made.

All data entry is managed by userforms, this is to validate each piece of data that is entered and that the right data is entered in the right cell. This is vital to the accuracy of Excels reporting functions. Userforms do this very user friendly, and efficiently often times a user never has to leave the home screen to accomplish this.

With the button click navigation it has the feel more of a web page then a netowork of spreadsheets. This just illustrates that Excel is so much more then just white sheets of boxes that can hold data.
